I wanted to check in here first as some help might be needed soon in a three-week battle with an infection in both feet of a RIR... There is obviously a lot of very good information in the emergencies section of the forum which we've been going through.

There are also some eggs in the incubator for the first time.

Thanks!

You have come to the right place for all the help and learning!

What is going on with these feet....bumblefoot, leg scale?? Definitely post in our emergency section if you have a big issue. Lots of helpful people there with good information.

Good luck with the hatch and we do welcome you to our flock!

If you post in the Emergencies section, I'm sure members there will be glad to help.

Good luck with your incubation!

Thanks for the welcome!

I went ahead and just lanced her for the third or so time and there is still infection there. This is not a typical bumblefoot case as there were no scabs on the bottom, etc. but I did actually dig out what I am pretty sure was a stringy-pus-coated thorn from the top side of one foot.

We did a 4-day round of penicillin week before last, and after the significant digging around again just now to find sources in the other two areas (unsuccessfully), I dressed her up and went ahead and started another round of penicillin (although I'm not really sure what the waiting period is between rounds, or if it is going to do any good anyway). She has been getting epsom salt soaks, neosporin, and wrapped in the meantime. She's eating OK, not great though, and poops look pretty normal. Have her in the hospital cage with pine shavings, vitamins in her water, and mixed in a little of the Mazuri game bird starter in her regular food to give her a little boost.

I'll give it another few days and see what happens... sigh... poor girl.

I'm glad you joined us.

I'm sorry to hear about your Rhode Island Red's feet troubles. Fortunately, I've never had to deal with bumblefoot, but it sounds very nasty and hard to treat. Good luck with the treatment!
