Hi all! Finished up with college, & am re-starting my love of chickens with a backyard flock. I kept a mixed bunch when I was in high school, but it has been a while & decided to start with the basic hatchery chicks until I can remember all the things I've forgotten. Then who knows, maybe I'll try to pick one variety & make the switch to show-types.
I & my guy ordered 12 assorted hens (Australorp, EE, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, New Hampshire) and a special of 15 heavy breed males (White & Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshire, Speckled Sussex, What is either a Buff Orpington or a Buff Rock, Dark Cornish, Light Brahmas, and an EE for the "rare & unusual" free-bee) from the McMurray Hatchery. I'm mostly putzing around on this site, because I'm trying to find out when the different breeds reach slaughter weight.
Lets see, fun fact about me, I raise mice as a hobby. Getting into show-types but have yet to exhibit (hopefully will get to in September or October). I'm working primarily with merles (looks like the pattern in dogs, but is different genetically in that breeding two merle mice together does NOT give you health complications in the offspring), and also have some fuzzies for a fun side project.
That's all I can think of for now, I'll probably head on over to the ID section to find out what that yellow bird is, and continue my hunt to find maturity rate of the cockerels. Thanks for reading!
