I have a hen that desired to have 9 chics in my fenced in yard . I don't know we're she came from but she is here to stay . So I need to know how to take Care of them which I have no idea . So I've been asking people who look at me like I'm crazy. Lol I think she's a game hen, long legs, small body and brown in color. The chics are about 7 or 8 wks old now . I've been feeding the but how can I tame them if that's even possible? And what kind of shelter do they need ? I really don't mind them running free in my yard but don't they need a house or something ? As u can see I really am new to all this!Lol any help that anyone could give me would be appreciated !!! Thanks

Game hens are generally excellent mothers. But she and her brood need to have a safe coop to sleep in and hopefully a safe, covered run for their daily exercise. I think if you free range them they may take off for the feral life, which may have been the case with the mother.

Hopefully other folks with experience in game birds will have more to tell you.

Welcome to BYC! Do you have anyone who might be willing to let you borrow a chicken tractor? I'd suggest trying to find the spot where mama usually nests for the night, and setting it up there. Sounds like mama is doing most of the work for you, so you can take a breather and just appreciate the new little flock you've found!

Best of luck!
