In the Brooder
Hello from southeastern USA.
We’ve had chickens for a little over a year (2 RIRs - including a surprise roo - and 2 Cinnamon Queens from TSC) and will be adding our 6 new chicks to the existing flock this summer. Our newbies are one of each: 6wk Black Australorp, 5wk Cream Legbar, 5wk Cuckoo Maran, 4wk Plymouth Blue Rock, 4wk Blue Copper Maran, and 3wk Splash Laced Red Wyandotte. We ordered them all (except the Aussie who was an impulse buy) to be delivered to a local farm same day, but the hatcheries had issues fulfilling orders on time so that’s why there are such age gaps). The Australorp seems a bit high strung and the Legbar is extremely needy and small compared to her sisters. Pics of our newbies attached. Hopefully, all are pullets. The only for sure pullet is the Legbar. The Cuckoo seems to be staying black instead of greying so I feel confident she is a pullet. The Aussie is on roo watch because she’s been quite a bit bigger than the rest for the past few weeks and “her” personality is fairly roo-like. The BCM is large, but nothing else indicates roo. I know it’s still too soon to tell for some of them, but any input is appreciated. They’ll be going into a mobile coop soon for a couple weeks and then will be in a temporary run next to the big girls for a couple weeks before moving into the big run for integrating. We’re shooting for the baby to be at least 8wks first and Praying for no issues!
