Hello! New Silver Polish Chick owner :)

wow April that was like the best story I've heard in a week : o
Coco is an unstoppable force of nature. I love her. She's had a more exciting life than I have.
That lady you got the eggs and chicks from though kind of sucked. I bet Dolly and Abba will be 10x nicer than her.
Also :welcome
Yeah, Coco really has been through a lot, I may post the story about the time when I had to fix her broken leg because it was INSANE, but I'll save it for another day. As for that breeder, if I ever decide to have more chickens in the future, I'll be getting fertile eggs or chicks from someone else. Thanks for the warm welcome! So glad to be a part of this community :)

It’s nice to meet you!

Hi April in welcome to byc so happy your project is progressing well. We have several silkies in our flock. We trim their top knots to ensure they have a good field of vision. It seriously doubles their IQ.

And and now me interjecting my two cents about a potential rooster. If you decide you want a little bit larger flock I keep the little guy around until he's a problem for the neighbors. And play the I don't know card she sent me two hens. That way you can get some more fertile eggs and expand your flock if that's your desire. Unfortunately hatching your own eggs is going to give you more roosters. Also I believe you mentioned you have cats if they are anything like mine most wildlife will not be bothering your chicken at night. I cannot tell you the number of possums I've had to throw over The back fence from my little beast of a cat. We used to have quite a few rats around the place but he put a stop to that too. I see now that we have raccoons encroaching on our area doing my roadkill census as I drive around. So in the future I'll probably be forced to harden my coops.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, the neighborhood where I live, they are very strict about Roosters. My mom is also an Airbnb host and the village does inspections on those houses that are listed. If they saw I had a rooster during an inspection, they would give me a week to relocate him or they would remove him for me, so having a rooster is an absolute no. I would love to keep Dolly if she turns out to be a roo because I know they'll protect the flock and can be raised to be pretty sweet but there's too much risk where I live. My cats used to be indoor/outdoor and would protect the yard but since we lost three cats last year to cars (including our large male cat who did all the protecting, my sweet boy Toulouse), we decided that the remaining three should be indoor. So now I bring Coco in at night instead of leaving her up on that AC Unit. And now with the babies, I wanna be extra careful when they're ready to explore outside. That's also why the location of the coop is gonna be right behind my room next to the window where I sleep, if I hear anything, I'll know to run out quick and check. Once we start building the coop I'll post pics :) Might purchase a pellet gun too just in case. That coon that showed up (I only saw him once) was HUGE.
