Hello & Our Cayugas

I don't sell ducklings, but I will probably sell some eggs in a couple of weeks.

Thank you so much for posting your Cayuga photos!

I have two eight week old Cayuga ducklings, pretty sure one is a drake and the other isn't. (What IS the correct word for a female duck?) At this age, they're practically full sized ducks.

I haven't put them outside yet because I also have 8 week old chicks who need a coop and enclosure all their own, but the Big Chickens' coop is not yet ready for occupancy by my current, grown up flock.

It doesn't get below 40 degrees here at night, and I understand ducks are more hardy than chickens, so I'm just going to have to get brave and put the ducklings out this week. Wonder if they'll stay in their new duck house or not?

Beautiful!

I just got two Cayuga ducklings on Wednesday and I love them! Absolutely adorable!!

I do have a question for you though - one of my female ducklings has some yellow feathers directly at the base of her beak underneath. The other doesn't have this. Is this any indication of sex? The one with the yellow chin feathers is bigger than the other female duckling.

I have seen some duckling pics on Feathersite that show this coloring and I know they are pure Cayugas.

Just curious...
