I grew up on a dairy farm and we always had chickens and my dad passed away recently and I inherited his chicken and I bought more chickens so they won’t get lonely and I love my chickens and daddy’s chickens won’t go in chicken house and are rousting in the trees and I have two top knots . And I have 5 silver chickens and I built a nNice chicken pen for them for this winter and I have a heat lamp inside it and I have ajoining yard and it has chicken wire on the top so Owls can’t get them. When I put all the chickens together they fight and I’m scared for them . I don’t want my dads chickens to freeze rousting in the trees so I happened upon your sight and I joined your group and thank you so very much for you adding me. Shiela

Welcome!
I do have a few questions.
Combining two groups of chickens is always difficult. When you say that they fight, is it fighting or just the natural pecking order?
Chickens are fine without added heat, and actually do better without it. If you lose electricity, the sudden drop in temperature will be too much of a shock. Are either group small chicks?
I think if you can give an idea on your location (primarily weather reasons), we can give better advice.

Hello, Sheila, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
It's not a good idea to just put groups of chickens together that do not know each other.
You need to slowing integrate them.
I also would not be using a heat source for winter. It's never a good idea to rely on a heat source for your birds in the winter. It's an extreme fire hazard. Additionally, if you lose power the birds are suddenly exposed to much colder temperatures than they've been acclimated to.
