I'm Samantha! My husband and I bought a farm about a year ago, and last weekend we bought a couple ducks! We still have some preparation to accomplish before my chicken house is ready but my flock is the next major addition!
We live in rural central Indiana on about 5 acres. I have quite the zoo: 5 cats, 3 Nigerian dwarf goats, a mini mule, a big mutt, a three year old daughter, and now my ducklings!! Now that spring is around the corner, we can finish the necessary fencing so my mule and goats can be moved to the barn, and that will free up my well house, where my chickens will go. I am SO excited to design their playground!
My father was a hobby farmer, and I picked up a lot along the way. My husband raised chicks as a kid but otherwise he and I are sort of winging it. I wanted the experience of raising chicks/ducklings, but I'm thinking I may go with mostly mature birds (along with a couple of chicks for Easter). I'm very eager for fresh eggs!!
I am open to any kind advice y'all have for me!
I'm curious in particular as to what books you recommend, and any tricks and valuable lessons you've learned along the way.

Look forward to chatting!
