Hi! I’m pretty new to chickens, which is why I joined this forum. Hopefully I can learn some new and helpful stuff about taking care of chickens from here. I just have one chicken right now who’s name is Peanut, and I got her as a baby chick about five months ago. I’m not sure what breed she is; I rescued her from the farm I work at, where they don’t keep track of the chickens. She’s some kind of bantam mix. She’s still small and she has feathers on her feet, which remind me of a silkie, but she has a white head and brown body and un-silkie-like feathers. So I’m not really sure what breed she is.
I found out about BackYardChickens.com from researching how to take care of Peanut. I’ve read the discussions here for a while, but I feel like I could gain more by being a member, especially now that she has started laying eggs.
Besides having Peanut, I work with horses a lot. I am quite the animal person. My family has three horses, two dogs, and two cats. One of the horses is mine, and then I also have Peanut, a hamster, and two wild mice that I also saved when they were babies this past summer.
And that’s about it! I’m looking forward to meeting other people who love chickens too!
