My name is Holly, and I love this sight!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I had chickens several years ago, but then life happened, so I hadn't had any for a long time. Now we are in a position to keep them again, so I got chicks about 4 weeks ago and I have eggs in an incubator (that we are hatching as a school project).
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 10 chicks right now.
(3) What breeds do you have? 4 buff orpingtons, 4 SL Wyandottes, and 2 unknowns
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? Chickens are hilarious! And eggs! Eggs are wonderful!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Hanging out with my kids, teaching, scouring the internet for information about our hobby farm as we develop it, gardening.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have 4 children, 2 cats, 2 ferrets, 10 chickens (more to come). I teach 3rd and 4th grade reading. We recently bought a small acreage, and hope to eventually have other farm animals to join the chickens!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC when I had chickens years ago. Such a great source of information! I finally joined because I couldn't stand not knowing what these 2 mystery chicks are, so I came to "ask the experts"!
