Hi everyone, I have 5 chickens and a lionhead buck rabbit that live together in our backyard.
We plan on selling this spring to purchase more land so we can grow our own food and expand to having 25 chickens, goats and bees.

25 chickens sounds about right. 25 goats? That's a lot of goats! But, I just have to say, 25 bees is not enough bees. Sorry, couldn't resist.

My chickens are reds that I ordered from our local feed store. I plan on getting more reds (Great layers, 1 egg a day) and maybe some other breeds from local farmers market or local farmers. Also considering meat birds though I’ve not done any research on them yet. To start out we are looking at getting 2 registered does and a buck for milking and babies and grow from there. Not to concerned about the breed, kinda depends on what is available in our area and so I’ve been watching kijiji and our local feed store bulletin board. I’m sure lots of options will start to pop up as we get closer to spring. A friend of mine raises Nubian goats and I can secure 2 kids from her which would be amazing, just haven’t decided if I want to start with young or older goats. I’m looking forward to talking with other goat farmers and asking lots of questions. I’ve been reading and watching lots of videos on goats too, though I still need to work on my farm animal lingo, lol. I have never raised goats before but grew up with dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens, pigs and horses. I think that is super important right now for us to get back to growing our own food and raising our own animals. How many chickens do you have?
