Hello

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.

Thank you! I actually got 1/4 inch, so even more protection I hope!
The most common gauge for 1/4" HC is 22 or 23 which is very thin and can be easily torn by larger predators. Dogs have been known to run right through it.

Dern folks. Thank you already for the knowledge. I just opened the roll of 1/4in hardware cloth. It definitely looks flimsy and is 23gauge. Not gonna do it. I ordered another roll of 1/2in 19 gauge off Amazon. Unfortunately my return window closed on the 1/4in. 😞…..I shall try to sell it locally at a loss. I’m glad I joined here and thank you to the ones who mentioned the wire gauge. Thought I’d done enough research, but I was wrong! Lol

You might save it? I used 1/2 inch over my run but had baby snakes slithering in so I covered my 1/2 with 1/4 inch. No more baby snakes! 🐍

Omg. I just realized that I said that backwards. Higher gauge is less sturdy. My apologies to the op.

Good for you!
The 1/4" is great for building inside the coop- brooder boxes and dividers. You're going to find a use for it sooner or later.

Hi, Barton72! Ahhh, that humid Georgia summer heat; I grew up with that through my teens (Marietta/Kennesaw area). Glad you've joined us at BYC - such a wealth of experience shared here by so many great folks! I'm raising my first flock (8 pullets) and have found so much helpful information and all-around fun stuff about chickens (and the interesting variety of people who keep them).
