(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I started out by “fostering” a friends chickens when they were on an extended trip, starting the summer of 2022. We had them for about 8 months. After that we built our coop and early 2024 had our first batch of chickens of our own.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 8 adults and 20 chicks
(3) What breeds do you have?
Cream crested legbar, salmon Faverolle, black sex link, leghorn, and a silkie mix
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They’re totally my pets- I love sitting outside and interacting with them and watching what they do and learning their personalities
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I’m an EdTechIII/BHP, which is basically being an assistant teacher in special education classrooms. I’m working on an online degree to get out of education because it’s so so awful and the pay is not great
I have one biological child who is autistic, level one, and two step kids, one of which is also level one autistic.
I live in Maine.
Besides my chickens I also have guinea pigs, cats, and fish.
