I'm new here! Just got a new place and allowed to have livestock finally! So did some research (on here mostly). Yes i got the bug. Was at TSC and why not $2 a piece. So I got 10 from the Americana trough. It's been 4 days, I cannot figure out what they are. Wife and kids want to know what they are. Will post current pics when I get home, but here is one from the trip home to start off with. Thanks and looking forward to learning more from everyone.
Cute babies! You will need to expand on their brooder as they are about ready to burst in that tiny box. Start with 1/2 square foot per baby, and expand up to 1 square foot as the grow bigger.
You can post their pics in our What Breed and Gender section for some good ID....
Thanks. They are in a large storage tote for the moment. I think they are fixing to take over the bathroom. I guess you could say I lept with out looking. But building is in progress for the coop. Started it last night after work. Will be on it again in about an hour. Taking off the end of next week to work on their playpen/compost pile. Hope to have them out of the house in about two weeks.
Hello and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with the new chicks and the coop build! Sounds like another case of Chicken Math! They are probably Production Reds, TSC sells those a lot, the girls are usually really nice brown egg layers. TwoCrows gave you some good links to check out. And it is always fun to check out your state thread for chicken keeping neighbors https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/44/texas
