Returned the sick "sneezing" chick and 1 other that was making similar noises. The farmer gave me 5 more chicks. Now another one of them is "sneezing/wheezing and open mouth breathing". Started last night and this morning is worse. They are already on tetracycline in there water. Have been for 7 days today. I tried to look down her throat...can't see anything. I recorded her doing it, but can't seem to get the video on here. She's been with all the other chicks and only one other looks a little snotty, but isn't making that noise and isn't open mouth breathing. I ordered oxine and it's in today. Will be cleaning with it, but does anyone have any other ideas? I don't know what to do...quarantine this one? meds? pray? seek vet advice? I'm lost!

Knock on wood they are all doing good. Gave Tylan in water and cleaned with oxine. Yesterday one was wheezing, but seems fine other than that. Still praying. We have grown so attached to them. We have also discovered we have 4 roosters. Not sure what to do about that either. They are all so sweet. Thanks for replying!

We have 10 chicks total...1 silkie, 1 old english, 1 bantum, and 1 RIR that I'm almost positive are roosters. Super sweet, but are looking and chest bumping like roosters. The others are very henish looking right now anyway. My daughter doesn't want to return them to the farmer because he flat out said right in front of her "Aw, just bring any roosters back and we will fry them up for supper!" EEEKKKKKK! Definately not something to say in front of my daughter. She has taken chicken out of her diet since we now have the babies! Wishing I could find them a home!

Eek! That is going to make things a bit more difficult.

I once bought a young goat sorta like that. In other words, the people I bought it from said to NOT mention that I was planning on roasting and eating it when I showed up. If any questions were asked by young children, I was to answer "I will give him a good home".

And that good home was a great number of happy bellies! :lau

(Ok, maybe I shouldn't laugh.... Bad me)

Well, we took the 4 possible roosters to the farmer so he could look and tell us what he thought and he really thinks all but one are hens. I can handle 1 rooster, but I'm still skeptical! Guess we will wait and see!
