Hello! First time Hatcher here. I have three very healthy and very active Pekín duck eggs that are on day 24 of incubation.

I had my first internal pip about 24 hours ago. The air cell was large - about 1/3 of the egg. After waiting 24 hours and no external pip, I performed a quick candling to check on the chick. The air cell seems to be completely gone. Is this normal? I can hear light tapping when held to ear -but they’re far and few between. No chirping. I’m worried that the chick will run out of air. Should I make an external pip for the chick to breathe? Or am I being a paranoid first time mother? Thank you! I hope someone responds soon, as I am VERY worried :)

It's normal for the aircell to deflate after being pierced. That's how chicks/Ducklings get air to breathe in their egg shell before hatching.

I have never hatched ducks, but many times with chickens after they pip internally they move to fill up the space where the air cell used to be. Hopefully you'll see an external pip soon!
