Help all I see is skin...!!

I picked up my BR hen and noticed on her chest, perfect center for about 6 inches down.... There are no feathers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's about an inch wide! All I can see is reddish purple skin, no blood though. she hasn't laid eggs since the Fall and is about 2 1/2 years old. I never noticed this until just recently, should I be concerned??

I would check for signs of mites, or possibly she is just starting a patchy molt

I would say broody or she has been sleeping on plyboard.

She hasn't laid since last fall. can she be broody that long? she sleeps in a next box with pine shavings. doesn't seem to bother her, but I don't see any mites.. where do I look for them? and what do they look like?

they look like sand or pepper granules crawling around. They are very miniscule and if you dont know what you are looking for you wont see them. Especially on a dark colored bird.

look under wings close to skin. Sometimes easier to see at nite with a flash light.
