HELP another sick hen

no...that medication in the feed is a coccidiostat... it might even make things worse and has not the amount of calcium needed for a laying aged bird...give her layer rations.

ok, thanks so much.someone is telling me she may have gapeworm?what are the symptoms

when i went down to check on her, shes eating and drinking great, though she still is weezing,no nasel discharge, not sneezing, but i noticed her wattle and comb is really red?

we have the same thing going on with one of our hens... of course it was 108 today. We have brought her in tonight and bought some gatorade and pedialyte. Cross your fingers for us. We had this happen last April and it was egg yolk peritonitis... Hope that it isn't the same again. Can't afford the vet for her again. Last time it was 300$. I hope to find her acting and breathing normally tomorrow!

In hot weather, the birds will reduce the amount of feed they eat... (it is also advised to do so...at the other BYC location at Ezboard, there is a sticky in General which explains HEAT STRESS and measures to take and why)... because of the heat stress and the feed reduction you need to add a supplement to their feed ...this will help keep them getting ill... especially vit A... deficiency of vit A will produce symptoms that are the "same" as respiratory illness (and respiratory illness often soon follows)... POLYVISOL (three or four drops in beak) for a week, then taper off will address this in birds where you suspect this may be a problem.

its not the heat,i have her in a cool cellar, and today its 70 degrees outside.

... well the cool part is good but I still feel she will benefit from the polyvisol... bird die from vit A deficiency. Now I do not know how it is in your cellar but in mine I KNOW there are too many fungal spores and such in the air that would kill my birds if I kept them there... a garage or such might be a better place for your bird if you even SUSPECT this .
