Help - are these hens?

Hi All,

First time posting here and after a little help. Took these chickens in from someone in the village. I am told they are quite young - no eggs as yet. Have we been sold a kipper or do you think there are some hens in and amongst? Told they are marans / marans cross

Hi there and welcome to BYC!

Saddle feathers start coming in around 12 weeks of age, well visible on most birds by 16 weeks.. (if they're not too ruffed up from pecking)..

Individual (and numbered) side standing photos that show the saddle and include the comb and waddles if possible.. for any you want a direct answer on, would make it easier.

Oh dear that's a lot of cockerels. I do believe I see a couple pullets, too. Agree that individual pics (or even smaller group pics) would be most helpful.

Looks like the majority are young roosters.
