HELP ASAP CHICKEN IS VERY ILL

I would be paying close attention to the others, things spread fast in flocks.

Was there anything around she might "get into"? Trying to help figure it out.

There is good how to diagnose and treat crop issues on BYC. How does her crop feel? When you get liquid like this coming out of mouth it can indicate crop is blocked or shut down. Until I figured out if a blockage I would only give liquid and massage crop. Monitor poo as that indicates digestive tract health.

I normally don't keep much in the yard, but we did spray some bug killer around the yard a few nights ago after they were already in the coop for the night. She did drink quite a bit of water when I got them some fresh water this morning.

  • 2 c. Warm Water
  • 2 tbsp. Brown Sugar, Honey or Molasses (I prefer molasses)
  • 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
Mix ingredients together and swirl until ingredients have dissolved. If you have a baby or toddler in the house, you can add a few drops (3-4) of their Polyvisol vitamins with NO iron (A, B, D). Keep solution refrigerated. This solution can be use full strength or diluted.

Use at room temp

I think that is also a good possibility.

Her crop feels really squish (great description right?) And her poo is either clear or really pale white. she is currently sitting on my lap and almost asleep. She seems very unaware of her surroundings. Could it maybe be heat distress or something?

The electrolytes will help with heat distress.

I am unsure of crop issues or how they are supposed to be.

That was a quoted recipe from another website. I wouldn't use honey that young, just because we were always taught not to give honey to babies ( don't know if it's relevant or not). But you can make it fast. I would make sure she gets it often.

Best wishes!

I started measuring the amount of liquid that came out and I got to a cup and a half. I now am gonna give her some feed and a drink but I don't think she has anymore of the liquid in her. I was like a clear mucus (looked like water but was thick) and once I had drained that out of her she seemed a bit better.

UPDATE: So all through the night I pretty much babied the poor thing. I gave her lots and lots of fluids and food which I struggled to give to her. Her crop felt a little weird so I massaged it to. I would feed her and lay her down for a bit and check on her every 20 minutes or so and do the same. Probably around 3 or 4 AM I fed her and I started to massage her crop and she coughed up a huge slug of thick mucus (with some threads of blood in it). After she coughed it up she kinda rocked back and forth on my lap for a few minutes. I then tilted her and a bunch of fluid came out again (of course) and then I let her sit there a few more minutes. She then looked at me then hopped down and ran for the feeder and waterer. She now looks so much happier and alert (the picture) and now eats and drinks all by herself. She's still not eating and drinking as much as she normally would but I'm still monitoring her. I only have 6 chickens total and I don't want to lose then this early on so I'm doing anything I can to make them happy (Now I sound like their my kids... yikes.). But thank you all for the help everyone!!
