Good luck on your decision, Goat Walker. I regret that the thread had to take the tone it did because some people decided to get emotional. What I find is lacking here when someone questioned your even allowing these ducklings to be born is, you have made a decision to serve this wonderful country that so many of us on here enjoy and it is because of this decision that you are making that these ducks have to be found new homes and the ducklings culled if that is what you decide to do. I'd make an educated guess that these eggs were produced before you made that big decision and so I personally don't feel you should be taken to task over that; it is because people like you are making this major life decision to serve in our military that we have the freedom to post to lists like this and to argue ethics, opinions and split hairs over ducklings and other poultry and animals. The preservation of our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness is much more important in this volatile world we live in and I hope you will bear that in mind when and if you ultimately put the ducklings down.
Please know that my hat is off to you and thank you for making this noble decision to serve to help protect our homeland. I had the honor at one of our Welsh breed shows on the 100th anniversary of our Welsh Pony and Cob Society to see a soldier come home from Afganistan and show her mother's Cob stallion in her full military dress uniform, which under USEF rules she was allowed to do instead of wearing the approved show clothes. She led the 100 Pony Parade in this Centennial show bearing an American flag while in the saddle and they played the National Anthem and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. So know you are not alone with having to put your animal hobby on the shelf while you serve and you will be in some noble company when you go out there.
