aww the poor baby.thats a big flap.unfortunately ive never had to deal with anything like that.do you have a vet who might be willing to give some advice over the phone? if you do leave that flap on you are gonna have to make sure it cant get caught on anything.are you sure the wieght of it isnt causing pain?

I don't have any vets nearby that I know of...I would like to drive to the nearest one and have her cleaned up by a vet, but they're always so expensive.

The flap actually isn't that heavy and it doesn't seem to be causing her any pain.

Farm vet are cheaper than city vets.

But you could call ahead and get an estimate. If not, I think you might have to really soak his flap in saline and try to pull it back a bit over the eye socket the best you can. Put gobs of neosporin on after that!

If you decide to take that piece of skin off you will have to caterize it so it doesn't bleed to much other wise your chick won't make it.
I also had a 5 day old chick that actually pulled it's skin off from the feeder I used(The one that you screw on the mason jars) and also almost beheaded itself. You can pick up the sticks from walmart also when you pick up the saline. Mine did make it threw but has no feathers as I'm sure yours will also.
Watch for the skin that is hanging there to make sure it's not turning black if it is you will have to take it off because it's not getting any blood flow to it and it will become infectected. Keep the neo on but make sure you don't use your hands because you will transfer germs from you to it's head. Always use a Q-tip.
Good Luck and lots of prayers

UPDATE: Unfortunately, she passed away yesterday morning.

I'm so sorry you lost the chick, you did all you could, and made her as happy as you could for the time you had her.

So sorry to hear that she didn't make it. But at least you know that you tried what you could to save the little one.
