This is our first time raising meat birds. We ordered Cornish Cross from Myers, 100 of them (105 came in the mail), and got them in the mail yesterday morning (Thursday) at 5:30am.They were shipped Monday morning. We were really worried about how long it took to ship to us.
Took them home, went straight to our brooder that we had set up with lamps that had been heating up for over a day.
We lost 9 chicks since yesterday morning, and 2 more are sick this afternoon. We have tried electrolyte water to help perk them up, but they just seem weak and uninterested. We've separated them from the rest of the chicks with their own heat, food, and water. They all seem to be dying in the same exact way.... they get weak and stop eating and drinking and we are unable to revive them back to health.
We are checking for pasty butt- no signs. Poo is all normal. Temperatures in the brooder are great. Its plenty big for them to get into cooler areas. We've been keeping water clean and fresh organic starter food. There aren't any drafts in the brooder room. We are trying not to handle them too much. WHAT IS GOING ON??
We feel horrible watching these chicks become unwell. At this point, it will be 11 chicks if we can't save the two this afternoon. Is this considered normal amount for "failure to thrive"?
Any advice please!!!
