HELP BCM chick peeped too low...not moving or peeping now

Thanks Chicky Tocks

We have been keeping her company. She is so darling. She is sitting in one of the empty egg cups. I'm going to try and get a picture if she doesn't move. I would have helped earlier if the chick had cried for help. Sometimes they just take a long nap before popping out. It just stopped and that was it. I think it was a roo from the looks of the comb. It was so pretty. I will keep the faith and wait and see what we get. I hope your hatch is a good one!

I know how you feel, I have had 2 that i have had to help out, It just seems that they are really weak this go around. They will pip and then you will see them move a little and then nothing very upsetting. I hope you have friend for pee-wee soon

Well I have a pip. From your hatch I've learned that if I get a low pip, and too much time passes, then intervention is necessary. I've never had one pip low. It's just so hard to say when you should intervene though because some just take longer to hatch than others.

Mine are in a carton with the bottoms cut out and sitting upright. I'll be watching for those low pips. I peek in every 10 minutes as it is and I doubt I'll get a wink of sleep tonight!

Hey Chickie Tocks

So glad you have a pip! I have never had a low pip like that before and I now wish I have intervend. Now that I think back on it ........when I candled them at day 10 one of them had an air sac that was diagional not straight across. I thought it was strange. Next time I will mark that egg to know it may have problems hatching. It took me forever to find the chicks head when I tried to help. So with it formed that way, I guess it had to pip that way. PEEWEEZIE is doing great! Hope I get at least 2 more!

Thank you so much. So far only tiny PEEWEEZIE. She is so cute and tiny. I am not sure these others are going to hatch. Day 22 now.....we will see. I have Dorking eggs in as well that are on day 18 today so she may have friends to play with in a few days. BUMMED that I don't have any more BCM's peeping. Hope yours do well.

Oh I hope you get at least two more too! My second one is nicely pipped and about to zip. Also, my frizzle is about to zip. If I only get the two, I'll be happy. I've waited so long for this breed. Shipped eggs are such a gamble. I still have 5 BCM eggs that haven't pipped yet.

This one little hatcher has a sweet personality already! Have you noticed any personality with Peewee?

OMG....PEEWEE is So sweet and adorable. I pray the other 2 hatch, but I don't know. Do you think my humidity dropping to 40 yesterday morning could have messed up the hatch although I did have 2 peep and one make it. My last hatch I had 26 eggs....candled at day 10 and had 18 developing and hatched all 18 although I had to help 3 that were stuck. Mostly buff orp. and 4 blue cochins. These marans are tough or is it just the shipped eggs? I have my fingers crossed for you.

I would say its both. They are hard to hatch anyway and being that they are shipped makes it even tougher. I just had 4 BCM chicks hatch out this morning and only one hatched from 14 eggs that were shipped. I will wait until tomorrow and see if any more hatch but shipping is always a gamble. Thats why trading is fun. Good luck with the chickies!

Who did you get your eggs from?

Chef

Hi Chef!

Thanks for your input. I got my eggs from bayhorsebonne. I bought 6 and she shipped 14. I candled at day 10 and saw 4 developing. Today is day 22 and I have one. She is from the tiny egg that she marked PEEWEE just for fun. I had another one peep yesterday and I guess you read my post about it. It was a big chick and perfectly formed. I have 2 more to go. We'll see what happens. I would love to trade with someone, but don't know anyone near where I live that has them. I live in NC and they were shipped all the way from California Express mail. I have dorking eggs that are 4 days behind in the bator as well and had 5 of 8 developing. Maybe PEEWEE will have buddies soon! Thanks!

Chickiemomma - I got my eggs from bayhorsebonne too, but I drove the 1 1/2 hours to pick them up.

I bought six at full price - $75.00 and she threw in a couple extras. Today is day 21 for me and I was gone all day. Two of the BCM eggs hatched - they were the little ones too - the tiny pullet eggs. The other egg that hatched was from my own cuckoo marans. None of the golden cuckoos or wheatens hatched, so unless they're late, I paid $125.00 for two chicks. I hope you and I get late hatchers out of this group.

They sure are cute with their fluffy white butts!
