I was moving my 8 week old girls cage, tripped over the dog and dropped the cage.

My White Faced Black Spanish, now has a broken leg? I feel like a bad chicken mama.
I have two cut down cotton swabs, supporting the leg wrapped in quaze then tape.

She is drinking water.

What else can I do for her? I feel so bad.

Can you tell kinda where the break is? That'll help me figure out what kind of splint you should use....Other
than that, you are doing everything right!! You're not a bad chicken mommy, I had almost the same thing happen.
Don't beat yourself up!!

Accidents happen don't beat yourself up, just make sure to check for swelling and be sure to keep the leg at a normal bend. offer her some extra vitamins either Poultry Nutri Drench or poly visol w/o iron and try to keep her as quiet and calm as possible. and warm so she doesn't go into shock. Hopefully in a few days maybe give her a little time in a secure place where she can get a little exercise with out any of the rest of your flock bothering her. Good luck and keep us updated.

I just cut two sticks about an inch long.
Started rolling one in gauze then wrapped it around the bone a couple of times the put the next splint on the oppisite side of her leg, keep wrapping then tape.
It's the very top leg bone, first bone out of her little body.

I have her separted from the other girls.

I put her in the nest box, and cage. But she keeps wanting to stand up.

Thank you everyone for the support. I has been a little over a week since the break. She has gained 3 oz, Yeasterday she was trying to use her bad foot to scartch her feed around. Today after taking off the bandage, which she was happy about. She was all over the yard, trying to put weight on her leg, and getting around with no problem-out running this Chicken Mama trying to catch her. Since my girls are "treat whores", meal worms got her back to her cage( but then all the others wanted treats too).

She has crooked toes, may never be show quality- but oh well-she will just be another one of my pampered pets. :)
