Help. Broken toe *graphic photos*

So happy to read that she's OK! I've been on the edge of my seat reading this thread. Thank you for updating. Thank you for being there for and keeping everything together for your husband while he is serving for our country. Wishing you, your husband and your flock all the very best!

Just thought I’d update this thread in case anyone comes back and sees this later and wonders how it turned out. After all of the above, I continued to clean and wrap my chickens toe every other day for about 8 days. The foot became less hot and less swollen and so I used blue Kote and let my chicken roam around without the bandage. From then on. Within a few days she was acting totally normal (still a small limp, but normal). And even started to lay eggs regularly again. The bone is still showing a tiny bit but I imagine that will remedy itself over time.
very pleased shes ok :)
First chicken injury conquered!

That's awesome!

You should definitely keep an eye on her foot and leg for future infections with that bone sticking out. Because of the hollow nature and porousness of the bone bacteria will have an easy time infecting the area around it.

Do you think you could post a photo to show how the skin is growing around the bone?

last update because I always wonder how things turn out on these types of posts. after all of the initial treatment, I left the toe alone completely, bone sticking out and all. Within just a couple of weeks she was all healed up This is her one month after the last update. :)

Wow! I can't believe the skin grew over the bone. That's fantastic! One happy chicken, again.

I use raw manuka honey and was able to safe my girl from a hawk attack that had ripped her neck. It was a bad deep wound Approx 3 inches and I saw her spinal cord. No vet near by, but managed with manuka honey and pinched the skin together. Manuka honey has antibiotic ingredients and worked well. I have a chicken with a broken toe and after a few days the skin broke. I treat her with the Manuka honey and wrapped it loosely. result she ripped it off but is already doing better. Manuka honey never goes bad. I love that.
