Help - Broody Mumma doesn't know what her chicks are...

oh, that is great! they are soooo cute. :) I have 5 Black Copper Marans mixed with a few hens that just hatched under their surrogate White Silkie momma...they are one week old now
 
Just a quick update for everyone - Lilly is being a better Mum everyday

She was out with them for a few hours (after a little initial encouragement) this morning basking in the sun and she is even helping them feed and becoming protective of them.

ihvpower - congratulations on your hatch - I am beggining to understand why Silkies are such good broodies and surrogate hatchers... in our case Lilly was just too much so, she just wanted to remain broody and keep hatching

Good to hear that Lily is getting the hang of things. They're a sweet little family, I hope things continue to get better and that you'll keep us posted.

I haven't had a reluctant Mom, yet. But, if I ever do, I'll try to give her time to get used to the idea. That is, unless she is a danger to the chicks. Thanks for this thread.

I have one Silkie now and I am 100% pos that I will be getting more...I am addicted!
