Is there some other place you could house the chickens temporarily? If so, you could give each chicken a good bath to get rid of the most part. After drying them carefully inspect them for residue and use some adhesive tape to trap the mites that survived the bath.

Then take double-sided adhesive tape and wrap it around the ends of the roosts just where they meet the wall. The mites cannot cross this barrier and will stay put on the tape, whether they want to approach the chickens or want to crawl back to hide after a good meal.

If the eggs are still good while treating for mites depends on the kind of agent you use. some may have a withdrawal period.

Mites can also be transferred to people while working in the coop or getting the eggs.

There is no wear we can put them temporarily. But there is a run attached to the coop that we could keep them in and out if the coop if that would help.

If the run is not predator proof it will not be secure to leave the chickens there. How about a garage or garden shed?

It’s so hard since theses are my grandparents, and I live two hours from them so I can’t help with treatment all the time. We may just have to cull them and start over.
