Help! Can chickens die from poultry lice!!!!!

You could spend your vacation at your grandparents and build a new chicken coop with your grandfather. Might even be a fun thing to do.

How many chickens do they have in this infested coop?

Thank you so much! I am certainly gonna be vet! I am so happy that you were able to help me so much, We will probably restart, but I am gonna adopt the two new chickens that he bought for his flock while they all had mites, and give them a good home. they are separated now and I didn't see any mites last I checked them, but when I bring them home I will separated them and treat them as if they were infested, with the epsom salt bath and all. Any more ideas on the best way to add them to my flock with out accidentally giving my flock mites? Thanks sooooooooo, much!

Yes, if I pull back there features then U can see millions of them and plenty of egg sacks. I am going to make sure they keep getting sprayed and hope for the best. The hardest part is it’s my grandparents chickens so I am not there to regulate his they get treated. It’s gonna be though, any other treatment ideas are appreciated And yes, on the chickens faces and combs are lice.
Those are some lucky chickens because they have you as a friend! You're so intelligent, so compassionate and caring... I have no doubt that you will be an awesome vet! Never, never forget that there is nothing that you can't accomplish!
Thanks again for your reply! It was great help.

You're welcome! And yes, regarding the two soon to be integrated new chickens I would quarantine them for 4 weeks to make sure they will not carry any disease into your flock. During quarantine wrap their roost with the double-sided adhesive tape as I already described and any mite that might have survived the bath will stick on the tape sooner or later, so you can be sure not to infest your own flock.

Wishing you all the best, you will be a wonderful vet one day, I am sure!

@Weeg don't give your address, but are you in the US?
Do you have a Tractor Supply or similar store?

I would get some Permethrin 10 concentrate, a garden sprayer and a hand held spray bottle.
Mix the Permethrin according to the label on the back for treatment of poultry housing - mix that up in the garden sprayer and spray the coop. Clean out all the bedding, then spray the housing making sure you treat the whole coop including ceiling, nesting boxes, roosting bars, etc. If possible, do this early in the morning, so the spray is dried by roosting time.

There's also labeling for use on the chickens themselves, mix that up and put it in the hand held sprayer and treat the birds.

It's nice that you are trying to help out your Grandparents. Do the best you can and don't stress out.
