Yep, you can just wipe your scissors with alcohol, let them dry, and snip. Wipe the flesh off with a bit of your iodine mix. The 'red parts' are not supposed to have as much blood supply & nerves. There was an article in Backyard Poultry showing how they dub chickens and cut off most of the earlobes, combes, wattles.
I have not done it myself, but it looks alot like cutting a horses frog or chestnuts off (if you're familiar with that). They are fleshy parts, but not painful for the animal to have them trimmed.
