Help! Chick hatched with unabsorbed yolk and intestines on the outside.

I had a chick hatch last night with the yolk still attached, it was very wet and had pipped at the wrong end. I tried to get it to sit in a cup, but it kept escaping so I just put clean paper towels down and left it overnight.

It's about 15 hours since it hatch and the yolk looks like it has absorbed now, but it looks like there are maybe intestines on the outside

I've highlighted the bit I'm most worried about. I really don't know what to do, it seems quite bright, but the bits on the outside look awful, would it be kinder to euthanise?

I've posted this in emergencies a few hours ago but no replies so wondered if anyone here had any advice?

Yes, I believe those are the intestines. It’s chances are slim but I remember reading about either getting the intestines to go back in or tying a string to get that part to fall off. Wait to hear from someone who knows for sure. Sorry, Wish I knew more.

Yea I have to agree with Ruby. Does appear to be intestines and if so, the outlook isn’t great

Euthanizing is always a tough choice for me. I’m always hopeful that something can be done, but also aware that sometimes it’s futile. Personally I think i would put it in a container alone, on soft cloth, and observe its activity level. And also consider tying it off to be clipped when it dries up. It may pass away before that even happens, and if it’s struggling, it may be best to put it down. Totally a personal decision, I’m so sorry you are having to deal with.

Another option, if you get it out of the incubator, take a few more pics and something else may come to mind for someone.

Thank you both for replying, it's hard to know what to do for the best. It seems amazingly bright and is pottering about cheeping but on the other hand I'm so worried it's suffering

I've got a baby fast asleep on me right now so won't be able to do anything for the next hour or so but will get some better pictures then.

Does look like intestines to me too. I guess you could try to clean everything with saline and chlorhexadine and stuff the intestines back in. There is a slim chance that it could heal without getting infected.

Thank you, I think I'm going to have to euthanase it's very small compared to the others and although it was bright initially, it seems weaker now. I feel bad, but I think it's the kindest thing to do.
