HELP! Chick looks like it's pooping an organ.

Ungh, problem. The chick went to poop and prolapse is now back. Will this not stay put?

You'll have to make this decision soon, but putting the little guy down will soon have to be considered. Try again, but eventually, the suffering and weakness may cause it mortal stress, I'm afraid. I'm very sorry, but not all chicks thrive and many of them just don't make it. Whatever inherent, biological weakness or frailty there is to his make-up is sometimes more than we can deal with as keepers. Again, very sorry.

Im so glad to hear it! Sorry, I kinda dropped off the forum after I replied to you. I was sleepy! I would watch him and keep him separate for a while...sounds like he may have sloughed a little of the intestinal lining. Just be super vigilant and make sure he is separate for a few days just to keep a curious hatch mate from taking a peck and causing it to prolapse again while you are trying to get it to heal.

I would give antibiotics for a few days just to make sure he doesn't get an infection from having all of that tissue exposed, but that is just me. Maybe some pedialite in his water.

Edit: if it came back out, what you can try is putting it back, and WITHOLD FOOD for 24 hours...I know it's tough, especially on one so small, but it may be his only chance to let that prolapse heal before culling is considered. Withold food, give him water with iron free polyvisol in it, a little sugar, and keep him warm. The less solid stuff he has to pass, the better for right now.

Phew! Well done you. Keep an eye on it and keep separate if any visible blood til sorted again. Gently push back in again with KY jelly or prep H as has been previously mentioned. If need be a vet may be required to put a stitch in to hold in place. Good luck

And just remember that as long as its little behind is red, other chickens might peck on it constantly, so protect it from the others, but keep it warm.

You can also apply honey as well as Prep. H - A prolapse can so very often come out again - honey will help to shrink it - keep him/her in a dark place - away from the other chickens - keep trying - don't give up until your chicken gives up on you! You can use an antibiotic such as Tetracycline to help keep infection at bay!

I wish you luck!

Thank you everyone for your support. Unfortunately, my little one died yesterday. I went to the store to get some sugar for it's water and shortly after I got home, I came in to find it had died. I think there was some really bad internal bleeding. When I picked it up there was blood coming out of it's eyes and beak. :( I am glad though that I tried everything though and kept it up until the very end. I guess God's plan was for it to go. I didn't want to be the one to kill it though, I just wanted to let live as long as it could.
Again thank you everyone for your help and support! ^_^
I am at peace with this though, I am used to animals not always making it.
