Six week old chick has developed a hard lump on the side of her eye. I have separated her because I am concerned.
Any ideas?

Hi @Piper521 :frow Welcome To BYC

Have you noticed if she has had a discharge or bubbles in the eyes, any coughing/sneezing or mucous from the nostrils?
Any plagues, lesions, canker or mucous inside the beak?
Her wattle under the beak, is that swollen too or is it just the way you are holding her?
Any pus or infection inside the ear (behind that tuft of feathers the arrow is pointing to)
Any lice/mites?
Any foul odors?
The swelling of the eye is concerning. You mention it's hard? Has she been with any or near any birds that have had respiratory illness?
One more question - sorry...what state or country do you live in?

It could be respiratory illness, this is a common cause of swelling of the eyes. Other causes include environment - like mold, excess ammonia from droppings, dusty conditions, a scratch or getting debris in the eye and poor ventilation.

General care for a swollen eye is to flush with saline and apply an eye ointment like Terramycin. If it gets worse, then you can try antibiotics. Getting testing is always a good idea to find out what is wrong.

The answer to your Most of your questions is no. I will look behind her ear and under her waddle when I get home from work and let you know.
The other birds show no signs of Illness. I live in a small town in northern Minnesota. Thank you for replying.I appreciate it .

Came home from work and took a good look at her ears no pus but a little swollen on one side . Inside her mouth looks good and there is no order . Her waddle does not seem to be swollen so it must’ve been the way I was holding her but I held her up to my ears and there was a faint rattle sound in her breathing. I checked the other chicks and they seem to be fine.

Well it's good the ears are clear, nothing in the beak and no swelling of the wattle.

The first thing I usually think of with swelling of the eye(s) and a faint rattle in breathing is respiratory illness. Even without a discharge from the eye, I would start with rinsing the eye with a little saline and applying an eye ointment.

If the rattling gets worse, then you may need to try an antibiotic. Injectable Tylan50 can be found in most feed stores. Dosage is 0.25ml per pound of weight given orally 3 times a day for 5 days.

Depending on what you are dealing with the antibiotics may or may not help. Something like Mycoplasma which is bacterial responds well while illness like Infectious Bronchitis is a virus and has to run it's course. The antibiotics will help with secondary infection though.
