ok,
so today i went to get some chicks of a very nice lady,
so i got 4 chicks,
one was a cuckoo japanese bantam,
white silke,
a wyandotte, that i dont know the colour of,
and an araucana,
and then she comes out and says that this little chick was free because it had its leg sorta weird,
so i happily agreed, got home and its like it has been cut at the joint, (like when you are butchering a chicken you cut the legs of at the joint) the toes moove and it looks like it hurts it when i hold it, i can see the bone, it was born today, so still young.
any ideas?
should i amputate it? if so, can you tel me how to, by the way, its a silke.
please help.

Can't see well enough to get an idea of what's going on there. definitely clean the wound, if the toes are still moving you may be able to save the leg. does it seem broken or just cut open? You may be able to bandaid it depending on the severity. It will have to be kept very clean.

its toes arent mooving any more,
and the bone is compleetly out of place,
the tips of its toe are going black,

its hurting it, it wont put its leg down and when it does it shreeks like if it hurts...

clean wound, and you can wrap it with some cloth, the bird is a baby so it will have to be under heat for a while so you can check on it regularly. TLC and time and i think the baby will be fine.

I would clean it and wrap it and see what happens. I would probably try to sling it if it's too painful for him to put it down, he will figure out how to use the one foot in the meantime. Black toes might be a bad sign, but see what happens. If it starts to smell bad and becomes infected you may have to amputate. It sounds like it will never be a good working leg, but it can heal and chickens can adapt.

Black toes could be a sign of lack of circulation (blood flow) or infection. Give it antibiotics immediately. Make a little sling so it doesn't have to put it's weight on it - I have seen hammock/slings for birds on this site you can look at for inspiration. While it is in sling you will have to bring it food and water. Keep it clean. I suggest that if the antibiotics don't work that you cull it instead of trying amputation because the infection would be systemic by then.

well i wraped it up and gave her some anibiotics that i had gotten from the vet.
this morning she is only using the right leg, the bad one she has right up on her chest, she wont put it down,
she is hopping, and now all her foot is black, she is a survivor, it would mean the world if someone could help me.
luke.
