Okay, I had to do research on this and discovered the fancy name is hydrocele and one of the options to treat it is to leave it alone or drain it. However, draining makes it refill again. Although not reported in chickens, I've seen similar conditions in dog where it was surgically removed if it proved to be prone to injury. Fascinating!
