Help. Chicken attacked by dog

Looking good! I wonder if she'll ever grow feather back to that area? I have been fortunate to have only experienced a simple case of bumblefoot in my 3 years of having chickens. Keep up the good work! A boost in protein will help in wound healing <3

Yes. I thought so too. I am giving eggs, and vitamin supps. I applied hydrogel pad under the dressing. I think I am going to leave on until tmmrw am ( thoughts?) Then apply a new one.

It looks as good as one can hope for! Definitely keep going with the hydrogel.

Once she's got the skin closed up, I would recommend using a hen saddle on her to protect the site from picking by other chickens until/if her feathers grow back. I know that's a ways in the future, but most hens tolerate them very well. My barred rocks have all fit into the medium size of the Hen Saver brand, which hold up really well. The official size guide says that mediums are for bantam - but I find the larges to be too big - they rub on the top of the tail on all but my biggest chickens. Most of my 100% non-bantam flock fits into the mediums.

This ams dressing change. The wound on top is healing by secondary intention ( meaning from inside out) it a little brown but it’s scabbed over with without smell. There gash on the lower L backside. I did a debridement of that gash and it’s much better today still oozing grey/ back gunk . Poor girl. I have irrigated, and cleaned it out, packed it with an antimicrobial dressing. We continue to use hydrogel and keep it covered. Eggs, yogurt and rest.

Keep irrigating those deep wounds! They should heal from the inside out, that's ideal, otherwise, you'll get an abscess. That would be an additional complication you could do without! Thanks for the update.

I was thinking... maybe you might add some fishmox (amoxicillin ) to her treatment. Especially because of the deep punctures, and dog bites have lots of bacteria. You can get it online. 250mg daily should do the trick. It comes in a capsule, so you could scramble egg and sprinkle it on there. Another method would be diluting it with a small amount of water and giving it orally with a syringe.
