HELP CHICKENS AND DUCKS ATTACKED BY DOG

My favorite thing to force feed a sick hen is a product called A/d which can be purchased from your vet. Another favorite of mine is hand feeding formula for parrots available from your vet or Petsmart or any other petstore that sells birds. Hand-feeding formula is made for young growing birds and contains all the minerals, probiotics, and calories to help your chicken recover. You can learn to tube feed your chicken if you are so inclined but be warned: tube feeding if done for too long (more than a week or so) may cause swallowing issues in the chicken. Since you've already been to the vet ask for instructions on how to do this simple procedure and get the proper supplies to do so. Or you can go on-line and see how it is done.

If the hen is too stressed out by tube feeding continue to force feed small amounts several times a day. Keep her warm and dry. You might have to make a sling to to get off her sternum-imagine a baby swing and you'll get the idea. The sling will take the pressure off chest and aid in breathing. If no bones are fractured you can do gentle mobility exercises-move her legs several times a day-so long as she is not stressed by handling. One of the main concerns with predator attacks is not only the tissue damage but the damage to the spine. If her back is broken she will not be able to use her legs and her quality of life will suffer. However, give her time and see how she does. Often the nursing care can do wonders for injured chickens.

Good luck!

Sadly the Light Sussex Hen has succumbed to her wounds and died an hour ago :(.

. So much for hatching out my own flock of Light Sussex chickens, now I have to start all the way back at square one and I only have a year and a half before I am out of the house. :p. Thank you all for your help and generosity though, I really do appreciate it!
