HELP! Chickens in field!

So my roo never lets my 2 hens out of the coop so today I decided to let him out for half the day then I would force them out for the rest of the day. Well the girls didn't like it and ran into the field next to the coop. I want them out because all they do is lay there and I want them to see what's all in the yard. They haven't been the healthiest since they're not allowed out and I thought that by doing this it would help. How do I get them out?

Evidently the rooster is harassing them . I'd get rid of the rooster or get more hens so that he is not overmating them.

I'm not planning on getting rid of the roo any time soon. I've also been looking for more chickens to buy but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions on how to keep them out of the field or get them out when they run in?

He terrorizes them when they come out. They know they're safe inside so they will stay inside. Even if you got rid if him it will take a while before they start to venture out again.

And just so you know, a bad rooster who stresses the girls out can lead to health problems.

Unfortunately, your Roo is abusing your girls and slowly torturing them until they are sick enough and can possibly die.
They're is a good chance they won't come back as long as he is around.
If I was being used and abused, I wouldn't come back either and he has made them to scared to move.
Our girls depend upon us humans to protect them from an abusive male, and or preditors. You said you won't get rid of him any time soon,
I must ask....
Why are you willing to allow him to abuse your girls to the point they just lay in the coop?
Do you think that behavior is acceptable?
I will suggest you house him separately until you have other plans in place to protect your girls or rehome him or cull him. He is not nice and you need to protect your girls.
What you have reported makes me very sad that your not willing to remove the Roo and then ask for help to get the girls back into an abusive situation
I hope they don't go back for their sake.

Of course I'm not going to jeporadize their health and safety when I'm perfectly capable of taking him out. I've had them for about 2 years and I know when they are getting sick or need help, which is why I've started separating them all day long. They run into the field when I let them out, not when they find an escape route and try to run for their lives. They did end up coming back yesterday and they're exploring the yard today. For their sake I'm glad they did come back. I have alot of possums and quite a few raccoon. A fox or coyote too. Not to mention the 5 stray cats. You act as though I abuse them. I can assure you that is not at all the case. They get many treats throughout the day and I take special care to make sure they are very comfortable in the coop. I asked how I could keep them out of the field, I didn't ask what I should do about the roo. He's overmating them and you should be glad to know that I'm looking into getting about 4 more chickens. Your roo is mistreating the hens. If you want them to have a better life, FIND A NEW ROO.

The roo is the source of the field problem. We are just trying to help.

I am sure they are finding a lot of good things to eat out in that field. How many grasshoppers do you have in your yard for them to eat? My chickens love to be in the tall grass - think safety and lots of bugs.
Why do you want to keep them out of the field?
