Help! Chickens need protection!

Last night we had a mink get into our chicken coop and he killed 9 of our beloved chickens. I was wondering if they can fit through chicken wire. We are going to add a hot wire as hot as we can get it. Should we switch to wire mesh?

Yes! Mink can get through very small openings and chicken wire can be ripped pretty easily, I would highly recommend switching to hardware cloth. So sorry for your loss

Very sorry for your loss. Weasels also can fit through chicken wire or small slits in doors or windows. Half inch hardware cloth wire fencing is helpful to keep out many small predators. The predator may return tonite, so I would make sure the others are secure.
