Help! Chicks dying! I think I know what happened! Am I right?

Speckledhen has talked in a couple of posts about having to treat for cocci in spite of feeding medicated feed. She has wondered whether the med is not working as well as it used to.

My chicks had cocci as well despite medicated feed. It was very mild though and I treated it successfully with milk.

I am home. Luckily I still have some left. I do believe everyone is right. It was cocci. I will keep them on medicated food. And wait a few weeks before they go outside. What also helps cure it? I believe they don't have it anymore. As in the dying and syntoms. But I want to make sure it is gone and they aren't carrying it before I move them in with my others.

As a side note:

Outside after the hurricain. 5 BLWR lived. 10 died. 2/2 SLW lived. (dang I have like 50 of them) The GLW died. All 8 polish died. the ee lived. and all 4 of the mutts lived.

Darn it. All the chicks that I had a ton of or were not expensive lived. And all my pricey chicks, special breeds, and favorites died. Oh well. I do know at least one BLRW roo and one pullet lived. So thats good. And my family has promised I can replace some of my others eventually.

they can get cocci even when on medicated feed sometimes..
the med to use is Liquid Sulmet 12.5%..use exactly as directed.
sulfadimethoxine can also be used.
Amprolium is the med in the chick feed.

keep a check on the droppings..runny, watery, pink, bloody, sometimes carmel
and greenish yellow colored.

could have been chilled and got a respiratory illness..
I prefer Tylan, but if they don't have serious symptoms..terramycin or aureomycin will do.
(terramycin..2 teaspoons per gallon of water /treatment dose)..
aureomycin..1 teaspoon per gallon)
