I’m sick. I feel so awful. I was shutting up the coop this evening and my hand slipped from the rope just as one of our girls went to poke her head back out. The door came down hard and she was completely knocked out. Limp when I picked her up.

But one eye was open and she was breathing. I held her close and brought her inside. Soon she was holding her head up.

After an hour she was able to flap her wings but still very lethargic and staying in my arms.

She hasn’t made any noise. Will stand but not walk. We’ve set her up inside in a dog kennel with towels, water and food.

She’s laid down and is sleeping.

I’m so worried. Anything else I can be doing for her?

Here’s a picture of dear Rose in bed with me. She’s only 9 weeks old!

It's good that she's able to lift her head as this could mean no serious injury to the neck. How heavy is the door?
I would keep an eye on her for 24 hrs to see if she's able to stand, walk, eat. Other than that she may have just gotten the wind knocked out of her sails.
It’s just a small wooden door, nothing to heavy. I was so relieved when she finally lifted her head! My heart just stopped when I picked her up and she was limp.

Almost exact same thing happened to us and our 4 month old chick. our heating lamp was unstable and sitting on a ledge, our dog hit the box hard and the lamp fell on her. She was shaking and twitching and then all the sudden she stopped moving. Our children had to go to school and I had to work, so I came back about 3 hours later to find her sitting with her neck shifted to the left, and like you said, one eye closed. After one day, her eye still wasn’t open, so we decided to put her in a dark place so she would be isolated from anything, and a day later her eye open up a bit. After her eye opened up, we decided to put her with her sisters and now she’s totally fine. Over these days , treat her with a lot of love :thumbsup

I just read a thread today about someone who accidentally stepped on her pullets head. Blood came out the nostril and everything. She showed signs of brain swelling but still managed to make a full recovery. Yours seems better already and this is just day one. I bet she'll be fine.

That must have been super scary though (for both of you). :hugs

Thanks everyone! She’s up and walking around this morning, talking a little bit. But she’s slow and she keeps closing that one eye still.

She also won’t eat or drink. It seems like she wants to, but maybe her coordination is off? She pecks, but doesn’t actually pick up any food.
