HELP! crop is TOLTALY mushy and saggy!

I had the same issue with one of my young pullets. I found her sitting quietly, in an unusual location, by herself while the girls were out free ranging in the yard. I picked her up and noticed her crop was mushy (like a deflated balloon). I actually ended up helping her vomit, what was left, up. I had to hold her head down, away from me. I gave her drips of water by straw in between vomiting. I ended up sleeping with her on the couch that night and then fed her plain yogurt and some scrambled egg the morning. She seemed alot better so I slowly added some of her regular food to the yogurt until she was eating normal again. I haven't had any problems so far but I am still keeping an eye on her for the same reasons that MarieNC was talking about. I hope it doesn't become a chronic thing. I thought maybe my girl had sour crop or just ate something icky.

Good luck with your roo! Keep us posted!

I fed him some oil/warm water then gave him a massage before he went to bed last night, when I woke up in the morning (five minutes ago) His crop was smaller but REALY REALY hard, like a rock. is this good or bad, and what should I do next?

this morning I gave pearl (that's his name) as much mineral oil as he would eat (which was probably less than 1/4 of a tsp), then gave him a massage, his crop was squishing around like sculpey so I don't know If I did any good, but at least his crop has shrunk a LOT since last night. oh yah and, how long are these massages supposed to last?

I think you can make him throw up just by tipping his whole body down away from you while you are holding him. They don't really vomit from what I understand, it just helps to empty their crop. My chicken's crop never went from hard to balloon like your boy, not that I noticed anyways. When I found her, it was just balloon like and she didn't feel well. I wonder if he ate something he should not have?

Okay, HOld her legs up in the air, towards you. PLace your other hand on her crop, gently massaging. Hold her head out, as she will try and tip her head up and keep the food down. Don't feed her for about 5 hours after doing this. Give her as much water as she wants. This is quite normal and easy to deal with.

Thank you for adding to that! I was running out the door so I was a bit vague.
