Help !!! Day 18 egg status

I have three eggs on my home made incubator. For one egg its day 18 today and for rest of the two its day 16. I candled the eggs today and I realized that the two eggs are doing great. The eggs are almost black except the egg air sack of course while the first eggs which is on day 18 initially seemed to be black when I candled from the pointy tip downwards. Then I candled it from the fat end downwards and realized that the egg wasn't completely black. It was about 75% black from the back not from the bottom. I am not able to take a good picture of the candled egg due to my crappy camera.

Can you guys tell me if the embryo died ? The rest of the eggs (on day 16) I just see the air sack and they seem to be good.

Sorry this is late, a day 18 egg should be completely dark except for the air sack. Sorry, I think your embryo is dead I wish you the best of luck with your other two eggs.

I candled it Yesterday morning. I saw a lot of movement though. Any idea what must be going on?

I guess it could be a late developer, perhaps it was kept at a cooler temp for the first few days of incubation? That would cause it to develop slower. It there's movement, keep it in there to see how it does. I would remove it from the turner though, just in case it is going to hatch. It could possibly be malpositioned too, that could account for empty space at the bottom of the egg. Too bad you can't post a picture.

I think you might be right. I incubated this egg for about 2 days and then stopped for 5 days since there was a power failure. Then started gain so its very possible. And this is my first hatch. I saw the movement at the pointy end. Do you think its malpositioned? Very possible I think. How do i handle it if that is the case?

If it is a malpostion, it could not be able to hatch by itself or it could die during the hatching process. I have not had to deal with helping a malposition yet, they are more common with shipped eggs and I mostly just hatch my own. There is a guide on here somewhere , where it shows how the chick is malpositioned and has pipped down near the bottom of the egg and the person helps chip a breathing hole in that part of the shell so the bird can breath but not cut the membrane because they need time to retract all the blood in the vessels.
If it is a malposition, just be prepared that the little guy might not make it. Its a tricky hatch at best.

When you said the eggs was 75% dark on the side it made me think that the chick may be in position to hatch. The air cell will 'dip down' once the chick is in position.
This should be on top when the egg is placed back in the incubator. If you have seen movement then the chick is alive. I have had 2 chicks successfully hatch from the pointed end of the egg. The most recent one was 2 weeks ago and the chick is healthy. The main problem would be if the air cell was on the large end but the head of the chick on the pointed end. In that case the chick will probably die before hatching. Watch it closely if it does pip and make sure it can get out after unzipping.

I just candled it and I saw that the movement was on the large end towards the air sac. rest eggs are still completely black and this one still is like 75% black. Its day 20 for him and for rest its 18. When do you think it will hatch.

You said it had about 5 days without incubator heat so I would expect it to be a little behind the others. But they are tough little birds and they can surprise you! Just make sure the humidity is 60 to 65 % and see what happens.
