I hope it all goes well mine should hatch Thursday and from my experience after they pep through the shell it could take 2 hrs or up to 18 hrs or more sometimes.

Hi, I am going to ask a question regarding this topic. I have 1 chick that hatched Saturday night.(that was day 20 for us) I set them in incubator Saturday March 28th, so I hope I got the days right. Anyway, the chick is fine now, however it was hatched with quite a bit of blood, and trampled the other eggs and smeared the blood all over them. I realize now that with my homade incubator it had hot spots. There are 3 eggs left in the incubator and still today none have hatched and I don't hear any noise or see any activity. I know I have to be patient and give them more time, however I am worried about the blood clogging the pores on the shells. Is this a problem and if so, can anything be done about it?

It shouldn't effect them.

If you set them on a Saturday, then this past Saturday would have been day 21. So you are up to day 23 today, Monday. Is the hatched one still inside the bator? Have you candled the remaining 3 lately? How's your humidity holding up?

I took the chick out of incubator that next day after seeing the mess and saw it pecking at styrofoam peices that fell from the holes. I have not opened incubator since. Humidity is steady between 70-80%
I thought day 1 begins 24 hr after you put them in? If that is true then the last Sunday in March would have been day 1. Then yesterday would have been 3 weeks later or day 21.
Am I wrong?

Saturday the 18th would start day 21. You set them on a Sat, so yes, Sunday would start day 1 which would bring you back to Sat for day 21. Basically it's 3 weeks on the same day that you set that you hatch. So if you set on a Sat, you expect hatch on Sat three weeks later.
I see what you are doing. You are mixing the two methods of calculations. #1 being you count after 24 hours and #2 being 3 weeks on the same day. (#2 is calculated from the set date, not from day 1 which is starts 24 hours later.) Hope that makes sense to you.

Sunday, March 28 - Day 1
Sunday, April 5 - Day 8
Sunday, April 12 - Day 15
Sunday, April 19 - Day 22

I prefer to think of set day as day 0. Then each successive same day of the week as 7, 14, 21, 28..
