black legs normal skin
I have been anxiously awaiting this day, the day where chickens are supposed to start hatching. I know it's not set in stone, but my chicks haven't even internally piped yet! I am worried that they are having trouble piping, or even dead. I was hoping to get a chick and would be really disappointed if I didn't. This is my first time incubating chicken eggs and I would feel really bad if they die. Please help!![]()
I wouldn't worry too much.
The first time I hatched eggs in an incubator I used the Janoel 10 which worked very well.
On day 21 I candled the eggs by simply lifting off the lid and shining a torch on the air sack without touching the egg. I was very anxious because I couldn't see any internal pips and there was no cheeping. So I researched and found that sometimes you can tap on the outside of the incubator or the egg gently but sharply just how a mother hen would do. This encourages the chick to pip. So I did this on an egg I couldn't see an internal pip on and it pipped externally just a couple seconds later! So, I guess the little chicken must have already internally pipped I just couldn't see it. And I didn't hear it peep too many times either. Only once. It finally hatched on day 22 about 12 hrs later. Try the tapping method and double check by shining a light on the air sack while the egg is still in the incubator to see any movement.
