We recently got bantam chicks, and one of them has a messed up foot. Some of the toes seem dead, and the chick (beef) limps, and holds the foot in the air when standing. Beef is breathing heavy, and its making me concerned that its infected and is spreading. One of the other chicks is always biting the foot too. Any tips on how to care for it?

The chick needs seperating from the others if they are attacking the foot. Then I would say it needs some anti-biotics, a close inspection to see if this is due to a foreign body, removal of such if it is, possibly some soaking in warm water with disinfectant, maybe a vet visit and ultimately, accepting the possibility that if the infection has gone too far, the chick may need culling.

We are taking her in to the vet ASAP. Hopefully she just needs antibiotics.
