Just show him that you honestly really want them and it's not a passing fad. It might take a while but if he sees you still want them in a couple mouths he might rethink how much you really want them.

Hmmm....welcome to the club. DH did not want me to get chickens AT ALL!!!!! I finally twisted his arm enough so that he gave in. He takes no part in their care and feeding at all (fine with me) and we bought a pre-fab coop so he didn't have to build one.

He has s l o w l y come around and does secretly like them I *think*! One crazy day recently (the kids and dog were acting up BIG time) he suggested that we get rid of the kids and dog and just keep the chickens!

Mine kicked and screamed when I brought mine homw.... started as 1 house chicken... then 2, then a roo that needed a home... then some eggs.... LMAO I think I'm up to 30+ now... and when DH is stressed about work or life... he goes and sits with the chickens

Not to say that we don;t still bicker from time to time..... but seeing how much I love raising them and knowing that I do all the grunt work... and HOPING they will start laying enough eggs to cover their feed, well, it makes him happy that we have them

my wifey hates my chickens... and she fought me tooth and nail and still complains about them and the 20 dollars i spend a months on feed. oh man she flipped when i went out and blew 300 bucks on lumber, lol but i had to build them a house . my only wish is i built a bigger one so i could have a few more chickens.

I plan on getting a coop for Christmas and thanking DH for it.

I will be asking what kind of chickens would be best for dual purposes. I think I can get DH to enjoy the chix and their antics when he has had a bad day or even a strssful one. I can only hope. Thank you all for your input. I will continue to enjoy all feedback. Lori:)

Sorry, I forgot to ask a question. If I have a coop that is 4' x 6' how many dual birds will it hold or can I have? Thanks Lori

The general rule for standard-sized chickens is 4 sq ft/bird inside and 10 sq ft/bird outside.

Sooooo, 4'x6'coop=24 sq ft/4sq ft/bird=6 birds

Then, for 6 birds, add a 6'x10' run on the back and you're all set!

Good luck!
