Peri is about 28 weeks old and has had runny stools and been crying in pain when trying to poo recently.
She only started laying eggs for about 3 weeks and then stopped about 3 weeks ago. The last week or so she has been on her own a lot and lethargic so we treated for cocciodocis (we had treated for worms only a few months ago separately). No other birds are crook. This hasn’t helped and she is actually getting worse.
We did some research and thought maybe egg bound so bathed her and put on lubricant and put her in warm dark nesting box...when rubbing her vent with petroleum jelly she pushed and I could see and feel something rough trying to protrude it seemed smallish and I wasn’t convinced of egg bound due to some yellowish looking discharge. We did further research and though perhaps due to the length of time it was more likely Vent Gleet so bathed her again to apply fungal cream and prepped an area to feed her some apple cider vinegar and yogurt cultures and keep her separated from the other hens. When I rubbed the fungal cream on her vent she then pushed and cried again and I could see the rough hard protrusion trying to come out so I helped push/massage around her vent and pulled it out with my finger nails. It’s a small round mass just bigger than a marble...what could it be and what could be wrong with my hen?
Please help she is a much loved family pet. We live in a small regional coastal area with no ‘farm’ vet who works with chooks!
Please help urgently xx
