Hi there. I'm new to this but roughly 3 months ago I bought 7 mixed breed 5-7 week old chicks from a lady who told me they were pullets. Now I have had my doubts about them being pullets for a while as they just all look a bit manly if that makes sense but still I held hope. 6 days ago my Plymouth looking fellow started crowing and my heart sunk. Although the others are not crowing yet they often have a stand off with each other. My favourite (rose) is the dark chestnut chicken, lovely temperament they are all very friendly. I'm just not sure and I'm wondering if some of you wonderful chicken people can help me. Thank you in advance :)

Thank you so much for your reply :( I was hoping I would have at least 1 pullet. Booooo. I forgot to mention they're roughly 20-23 weeks old

Oh I thought they’d be around 16 weeks, now you say that, the barred one (3) looks suspicious, I’m still leaning toward cockerel. There’s a lot more people more experienced than me however, hopefully they’ll give their opinions soon. :)

They were hatched mid to late September. I'm not really keeping up with the weeks :hmm yes he is the one who has started crowing. The white one was a runt he is the smallest. The last one is only small too to must bantam maybe. Sorry still learning

Thanks so much for the help. Most of them do have slightly pointy tail feathers besides the one in the last photo and their combs are not very advanced? I have been googling how to sex chickens but nothing is very obvious to me  Does anyone have any pointers or should I just wait until they doodle-Doo or lay an egg

I think the person you bought them from duped you. I can tell with my birds at 5-7 weeks. They probably knew they were all roos and lied to get them off their hands. The thing to look for in the younger chicks is a quickly developing and reddening comb and wattles. Then they get a bigger tail with a curve to it. Then saddle and hackle feathers that are pointy. I'd be having words with who sold them to you. Imo, the only one who might be a pullet is the one with barring. Do you have pics from when you bought them?
