Help duck with prolapsed penis

I had no experience with a prolapsed duck, but I've had prolapsed snakes (bowels) and a possum (penis) ,
I used coconut oil to keep it moist which worked well.
Id just routinely clean with saline gently, add oil, and repeat as needed.

The possum penis did go back in after about a day and a half. I know a possum is very different, I just mean keeping it clean and moist seemed to allow for swelling or whatever was stopping it going in to stop. You shouldn't give Marsupials antibiotics and it didn't look swollen so I was feeling lost.


Hopefully your duck does the same

I haven't had experience with a prolapsed drake, but did with a prolapsed duck... coconut oil and honey(real, raw and unpasteurized) worked wonders... hope he gets better...

I cleaned it with saline and applied coconut oil. I have a large wire dog kennel and added some hay for him to stay in awhile, I have these dog bowls that clip to the side of the kennel so I gave him that filled with water

Just wanted to let everyone know that he is all better! I kept him clean with saline and did a coconut oil and honey mixture on him and some antibiotic ointment and it worked great! Thanks for the help everyone!

So glad to hear this. I would maybe keep him confined a few days so he doesn't head right back out & try to mate again. Give it time to heal a bit, best wishes.
